Background #5 - Gelatos and Embossing Paste

Background #5 – Gelatos and Embossing Paste

Gelatos - I bought Gelatos when they were all the rage but never used them.  However, I do believe they are still popular with those that create mixed media and also used as watercolors.  I looked for some instructions related to my 2019 Background Technique list and found https://designmemorycraft.typepad.com/design-memory-craft/2014/06/have-your-adventure-1.html

I really didn’t know what Gelatos were until I looked them up:

  •  highly pigmented crayons from Faber-Castell

  •  creamy smooth consistency to glide on easily over a variety of surfaces such as paper, fabric, canvas or wood.

  •  highly versatile

  •  can be used for painting or smudged with a finger to create color shades and blended colors

  • dissolved in warm water and used as a spray paint

  • Since they are water-soluble, they can also be used with a brush to achieve attractive watercolor effects

  •  superb for stamping: simply dampen the surface of the stamp, coat with one or more colors and press onto the paper

  • the crayon sticks are also ideal for collage techniques and mixed

  • blend easily with or without water and can be used on any porous surface

Sad to say they are made in China but distributed by a USA company.  Is anything made in America anymore?

Backgrounds is my thing for awhile as it is the #1 technique to try for 2019.  There are so many different techniques for backgrounds and I would see them and say “someday I’m going to try that”.  Well someday is here.

This card uses the pale shades of the gelatos which is normally not my style.  There are plans are in the works to also make one with bright colors.

Background #3 - Love

I made a craft list of techniques I would like to try in 2019.  The first one is handmade backgrounds;  this is the third one.  It combines text and images just like the challenge recently.  Since its close to Valentines Day the card is made with that theme in mind (the hearts and text).

To make the size circle I just reversed the stamp I was using for the heart with text to make a circle (on the back of the stamp) and then turned it over to the correct side to stamp the heart with text on top of circles).

If you haven't used the Guide Lines Paper from Papertrey, it really helps line up images if the are small enough for the lightly pre-printed lines and circles.  I love it this paper.  Its also a wonderful look to put a very small image or flower in between the circles but I thought that would be too busy with the text.  However, I have made such a background and love it but haven't decided how to showcase it and make the final card.  Coming soon . . .

Love Negative Die Cut Backgrounds

Papertrey Make It Monday #349

This Monday’s challenge was called, “Negative Die Cut Backgrounds” by Ashley Newell of Papertrey Ink.  Here example had white on top, but every time I tried white card stock on the top layer, I could not see the die cut out form.  Maybe I could have glued the image down in more places than just the edges now that I think of it.

Fun challenge.  All products used are Papertrey Ink, unless otherwise stated:
