Pileated Woodpecker
We are blessed to have an open canyon behind our house, which is perfect habitat for this pileated woodpecker. They love the dead trees the best where lots of bugs live. It is a very large woodpecker, roughly crow-sized. It is also the largest woodpecker in the United States except for the possibly extinct Ivory billed woodpecker.
