This card was actually made by making an error using too much heat while embossing a message at the bottom of the card and the vellum melted. Therefore, I had to cut off part of the vellum. Thus, only the top 2/3 of the card have the vellum over it to soften the colored background. Even so, I think it amplifies the softness that the vellum gives to the background paper.
I knew I wanted to start with a new stamp set that included an Iris. Iris was one of my mother's favorite flowers and each time I see them brings back that memory.

Your Iris is so stunning!
ps I LOVE your header on your blog. Beautiful photo of My Rainer!
Joanne this is gorgeous! Love how you muted just the top 2/3, and showed more of the pretty pattern on the bottom. Mistakes turned into lemonade: love it! Can't wait to use this beautiful set!
Joanne , this turned out wonderful! Your blooms look great with the softness of the vellum.
Your mistake was indeed a lucky accident. I think the card is all the better for it. It's just beautiful.
Irises remind me of my mother, also.
A lovely design! and beautiful iris!
Love your iris! Your vellum worked perfectly to soften the background!
Beautiful card! Love the contrast the vellum makes and those irises are lovely.
Love it!
Looks like it was a happy mistake Joanne, as your card is absolutely beautiful! I had to have this stamp set because of the Iris's too, but haven't had a chance to play with it yet. Love the colors you chose for the flowers though...they look just like the Iris's coming up on the side of my house! Beautiful, beautiful card! :0)
This is a pretty card, Joanne. I'll join in with the others; the accident with the vellum turned out for the best. You have the softness behind the flowers and the bolder color to anchor the flowers.
another one here to say it was serendipitous! What a happy accident. I really love seeing some of the patterned paper at the bottom but the vellum does a great job of allowing the irises to shine (and not compete with that paper)...lovely - i need to get those irises! LOL
This is a beauty!!!!
So pretty, and I also think that it looks fabulous and "right" with the uncovered paper at the bottom. But please don't tell me that I may need that flower set after all!
A stunning card using these fabulous new iris'! I should say your accident was a successful one.
